Sanu Sherpa,
a record climber who has repeatedly climbed all 14 mountains in the world
higher than 8,000 meters, says that seeing a dead body on the mountain is
heartbreaking. He says that seeing the
corpses of others in the mountains, where disaster can strike at any time,
creates fear in the heart.
He says,
"When I see the dead body, I think what will my children and my family do,
what will the family of this person be doing." He has the experience that
when he sees a dead body while he is climbing, his mind wanders.
Sherpa, who
has been climbing the mountain for almost two decades, says that in recent
years, dead bodies have started to appear along with the melting of the
snow. In some places, the whole body is
seen, in some places, broken parts and skeletons are seen. He says that even in places where bodies were
not seen in previous years, dead bodies of another year are seen.
Another
climber Nar Bahadur Asthani Magar also says that he saw many dead bodies while
climbing Mount Everest. He says, 'Somewhere
a whole body is seen, somewhere only parts are seen, dead bodies are seen all
around the road.'
Mingma David
Sherpa, the record climber who climbed 14 highest mountains at the youngest
age, also says that many dead bodies are seen during the climb. He says that sometimes there is a situation
where he has to walk over the dead body.
More than
300 climbers have lost their lives on Mount Everest since the beginning of the
ascent of the highest peak. It is said
that the bodies of almost two-thirds of those who lost their lives are still on
Mount Everest. Dead bodies buried in ice
and snow have recently started to appear on the surface as the snow melts.
Many bodies
have been removed from the Chinese side, but the bodies are still in the snow on
the Nepalese side. Climbers say that
even in places where no corpses were seen the previous year, corpses are seen
next year after the snow melts. Such
bodies can be seen from the Khumbu Icefall up to the balcony. There are many dead bodies in and around the
fourth camp. When the Khumbu glacier was
active, dead bodies were also seen there.
Searching
for and removing bodies at the top of the mountain is both difficult and
expensive. Climber and campaign worker
PK Sherpa, who conducted the Everest cleanup campaign and brought some bodies
to the base camp, says that many bodies were stopped there because it was
expensive.
Some
climbers say that if they die in the mountains, their relatives refuse to bring
the dead body. Many have not been found
or brought even though they wanted to.
Regardless of the reason, climbers say that the number of dead bodies in
the mountains is increasing and it is a risk for the mountain and other
climbers who reach there.
Some dead
bodies have been rescued under the government's mountain clean-up campaign
conducted by the Nepali Army. But there
are still many bodies in the mountains.
Climbers say that Nepal has the manpower to find and bring down dead
bodies if the government wants, so it is possible to bring down most of the
dead bodies in the mountains.
