Jagdeep Dhankhar newly elected Vice President of India



 



Jagdeep Dhankhar has been elected as the new Vice
President of India.



 



The former governor of West Bengal, Dhankhar, was
elected as the new vice president in the voting held yesterday.



 



According to the Indian media, Dhankhar was elected as
the vice president after defeating the opposition candidate Margaret Alva by
346 votes.



 



Out of 710 votes cast, Dhankhar got 528 votes and
opposition candidate Margaret Alva got 182 votes. Lok Sabha Secretary General
Uttam Kumar Singh, who presided over the 16th Vice-Presidential election,
announced that fifteen votes were invalid as 725 of the 780 eligible MPs voted.



 



India voted yesterday for the new vice president.
Dhankhar was fielded by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party alliance. Earlier,
Draupadi Murmu was elected as the President on behalf of the ruling coalition.
